Penang Cooking Class and Baking Class

Hello
My name is Juls. Welcome to Juls’ Kitchen On Fire. I offer personal coaching or small group classes, PM me to let me know what you need. Here is the collection of my cooking and baking video and my Facebook page Juls' Kitchen On Fire

A Personal Cooking Coach is a Personal Trainer for the kitchen. I am an experienced cook to teach you how to cook or bake in the privacy of your home, on your schedule, at your speed.
Having your own cooking coach can help you with all levels of cooking from equipment, to shopping, cooking and baking skills, stocking your pantry and food safety.

You will learn all methods of cooking and will ultimately cook meals and entertain with confidence.
Having your personal cooking coach makes a great gift for newlyweds, newly singles or new mothers, or for those who are just tired of take-out!

A personal cooking coach works with you in your own home, in your own kitchen. Have you ever waited weeks or months for a local cooking school to schedule a class you want to take to find that it’s already sold out or it’s on a night that you are busy?

You will learn the way culinary students learn. By starting with the basic fundamentals. When you master the basics you will cook with confidence.

The biggest mistake that most beginners make is to enroll in a cooking a class that is too advanced. Just because you like to eat something doesn’t mean you should start there. The coaching package: Help, I have a Kitchen, will begin with a personal interview to identify your cooking needs, goals, expectations, limitations, diet, food allergies or restrictions. The coach will do a kitchen assessment – what equipment do you have and what you need.

Like a fitness trainer, a cooking coach can make a healthy change to your life. When you prepare food at home, you have more control over the ingredients, and the portion size, and the cost. Let’s face it – eating out healthily is expensive.

Individual coaching or small group classes by referrals only. Lessons can be customised based on students needs. PM me on Facebook Page Juls’ Kitchen On Fire” or email at JulsLee@mail.com for enquiries.

My Background:
Being a Malaysian born in Penang, the food capital of Malaysia, I am spoilt for choice when it comes to great food. Malaysian cooking is made up of Chinese, Malay, Indian cooking primarily but greatly influenced by cuisine of its neighbouring countries, i.e. Thai and Indonesian.
Great flavour is what you can expect from Malaysian cooking with all these wonderful local ingredients and multiple ethnic groups. We use a lot of aromatics and spices to enhance the flavours in our cooking.

I was born half nyonya (my great grandma was a nyonya) and started cooking since I was 8 helping my mom cook rice in the kitchen and also when I lived abroad by myself. My style of cooking is to use whatever you have in your kitchen and make it into a flavourful dish. You don’t need any recipes to cook once you understand the fundamentals.
I love trying out new ingredients and write my own recipes. I am a self taught cook inspired by my mom who is respected for her Nyonya cooking. I also learn from watching AFC, reading chef books, taking gastronomy and baking courses to make myself a better cook. I believe that one is a student for life when it comes to cooking. Cooking Is Like Love. It Should Be Entered Into with Abandon or Not At All.

Welcome to Jul’s Kitchen On Fire and I hope you enjoy my recipes. Contact me if you want to learn any of my recipes at your kitchen or if kitchen is the scariest room in the house, you will need a cooking coach or you simply want to how to make yoghurt at home or healthy bread for your children. Have adventures in your kitchen with me and I’d love to hear from you. PM me on FB Juls’ Kitchen On Fire” or email at JulsLee@mail.com for enquiries.
Speak with you soon! Ciao.

Below are some of the attractions near the apartment.

This floating mosque is just opposite to the apartment within walking distance, an architectural wonder featuring Moorish design, seven-storey-high towering minarets and 360-degree panoramic view of the sea. It’s the first mosque in the country to be built on the sea, with pillars and stilts supporting its majestic structure. Covering an area of 1,295sqm, it can accommodate up to 1500 people during prayer times.

Within walking distance from the apartment, the famous Pisang Goreng (banana fritters) stall which also sells deep fried cempedak, deep fried kuih kodok pinang, deep fried tee kuih with yam and sweet potato (my favourite). His stall offers the most tantalising mouth watering snacks around.

Ingolf Kneipe is a very authentic German Restaurant open by a German. Prices vary according to the contents, but are usually very reasonable. The food is simply exquisite yet with a very big portion. This is one of my favourite restaurant which 5 min away from the apartment at one of the shop houses with 7-11, Guardian, Vintage Bulgaria restaurant, behind Tanjung Bungah Selera food court on the main road. Try the famous Tony Ice Kacang and the best burgers on a van (he's been selling for over 2 decades) also if you happen to be around that area.

Island Plaza is located in Tanjung Tokong, 7 minutes away from the apartment. The mall carries a good mix of local, regional and international retailers like Cold Storage, KFC, Coffee Bean, Dome, Edoichi Japanese Retaurant, Guardian Drug Store and other retail outlets.Outside the mall, across the busy main road, are rows of shophouses and restaurants.

Good for those traveling with children or even adults may enjoy them. Something that most people would miss lies a mere 5-minute drive from the apartment. Penang’s Toy Museum is the country’s first toy museum and reputedly the largest of its kind in the world, with over 100,000 toys, figurines and collectibles under its roof. The museum was the brainchild of its owner Loh Lean Cheng, who visited London’s Toy & Model Museum, at the age of 19, and was in turn inspired to start his own collection. Divided into sections such as ‘Chamber of Horror’ and ‘ Hall of Beauties’, the collection includes rare limited editions acquired by Loh on his travels. Sound and motion effects accompany some of the exhibits, so don’t be surprised if the toys start moving or talking!
Batu Ferringhi, known as Foreigner's Rock in local language, Batu Ferringhi is a beach township, occupying a stretch of beach at north of Penang. It may be a bit calm if you pass by during the day but as night approaches, Batu Ferringhi comes alive! Night Market or some refer as 'Sidewalk Bazaar' is one of the most popular activities at Batu Ferringhi and full stretch of international restaurants.

Every Tuesday night, Tanjung Bungah comes alive with the usual cacophony of the marketplace. 3 min drive from the apartment and within walking distance if you'd like to stroll around the place. The weekly Night Market is popular with the locals as well as curious visitors. Located near one of the town’s bus terminals, the lively night market is deemed the longest in Penang, surrounding the day market area. You can find all sorts of items here, from pets to gadgets, and as is normal with such bazaars, you can always haggle your way towards a wonderful bargain. Perfect for that after dinner stroll that might just net some treasures you’ve never imagined.

10 min drive from the apartment. Gurney Plaza is the most popular premier lifestyle mall with more than 400 brands including a 12-hall cineplax and fitness center that spread over 836,000 sq ft. Gurney Plaza offers an array of goods and services to please and pamper the needs of every shopper, from fashion, entertainment, arts & culture, home décor, books, electrical equipment, telecommunications and computer to local delicacies and international gourmet.

Tropical Spice Garden is between Batu Ferringhi and Teluk Bahang With more than 500 varieties of tropical herbs and spices. Approx 25 min from the apartment.

Penang National Park - Meromictic lake. The park's ecosystem is a diversity of habitats with hills, sandy and rocky beaches, streams and coastal forests - representing much of the natural habitats of Penang.

Monkey Beach (a.k.a. Teluk Duying) is situated in the Penang National Park in the North - Western Coast of the Island. It is one of the few pristine beaches left on the Island because it is not as exposed to the pollution found along the West Coast of the Island. The beach can be reached either by 1.5 hour hike along the coast or by a short boat ride from Penang National park entrance. The calm bay of Monkey Beach is considered safe for swimming, unlike many beaches on the island that are infested with jellyfish. Although it is relatively isolated, visitors to the beach are not uncommon and numbers increase especially during the summer tourist season. A further half an hour uphill hike from the beach will take visitors to the scenic lighthouse. Boatman can also provide BBQ lunch for a small fee.

Penang Butterfly Farm at Teluk Bahang, World's 1st Tropical Life Butterfly Sanctuary, approx 20-min drive from the apartment up north.

Teluk Bahang Dam - It is situated on the northwestern part of Penang Island. Approx 25-min drive from the apartment. One can go to Penang National Park, Teluk Bahang Dam, Butterfly Farm, Tropical fruit farm, Spice Garden, all at the north of Penang.

Penang Escape Theme Park, Teluk Bahang

Penang Escape Theme Park, Teluk Bahang
Escape is a family theme park with exciting and challenging activities that promote wellness in the great outdoors. It's a place where noone is too old or too young to have fun!

Swing from tree to tree like a monkey, leap like Atan (the hero of the park), go ape on the rope walks, bounce down tubby racers, become a cave explorer, and even pan for treasure. It's a world class tourism destination where you rub shoulders with everyone. And yet your experience will be unique.
